Let the River Have Your Lunch Break

The natural area at Horner Park offers a convincing change of scenery without leaving the city. Follow designated mulched paths through prairie and oak savanna beside the Chicago River. Go at lunch, not after dinner; the natural area closes at dusk.
Where: Horner Park Natural Area, 2741 W. Montrose Ave., Chicago
When: Daily, dawn to dusk; sunset is around 4:40–4:43 p.m. this week
Cost: Free
Know before you go: No dogs or bikes in the natural area. Stay on marked paths.
For a longer paved walk, the nearby 312 RiverRun links several riverfront parks.
