Candy Day Started as a 1916 Sales Pitch

Colorful assorted candies arranged in market bins.

National Candy Day lands on November 4, though its modern origin is murky. The Library of Congress found a revealing predecessor: confectioners promoted Candy Day in 1916, placing it on October’s second Saturday and encouraging people to give candy as gifts and energy-rich food. A century later, the date moved but the sugar-forward sales pitch survived beautifully.
