There Was No Sign. Color Me Curious.
La Lunita opened quietly on Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square in 2025 and has been worth finding ever since.
La Lunita opened in 2025 on Milwaukee near the Logan Square train station with no sign outside. Nothing to tell you what it was or why you should go in. That absence of explanation was enough to make me curious, and curious was enough to make me go in, and going in was enough to make me come back several times after that.
The space is minimal, light, and airy in a way that feels effortless rather than designed. Round arches define the interior and give it a clear Mexican architectural reference. Blonde exposed beams run across the high ceilings creating rhythm without noise. In the warmer months the bifold doors open completely onto Milwaukee Avenue and the room becomes part of the sidewalk. On those days it is one of the better places to sit in Logan Square.
La Lunita is the quieter sibling to La Luna in Pilsen, which is loud, vibrant, packed with local artwork and neon and high-volume energy. La Lunita takes the same culinary DNA and strips the room back. The result is a space where the food gets to do more of the talking.
The menu is upscale Mexican built around small plates for sharing. The guacamole arrives beautifully plated with pomegranate and flowers, homemade tortillas standing upright in a small architectural moment of their own. The grilled oysters are the dish that surprises people. Allen does not eat oysters. Allen orders two of the grilled ones every time. They are smoky, acidic, a little spicy, and completely worth it. The octopus is tender and grilled right and should not be skipped. The birria tacos are worth ordering for the consomme alone, which is deep and full of flavor.
Brunch is solid and a good option on weekends when Lula's inevitable two hour wait makes you reconsider your morning. La Lunita handles it well. That said, this place is better at happy hour and dinner, when the DJ is spinning Latin and R&B on vinyl and the room is doing exactly what it was built to do.
Stay up-to-date
